APPLICATIONS ENGINEER/ MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING PROFESSIONAL
Nature of Position:
The individual in this full-time professional position will provide on-site, focused engineering and technology transfer services to small and mid-sized Oklahoma manufacturers. Responsibilities include evaluations of products, processes, and facilities for the purpose of identifying opportunities for new technologies and technical assistance. Provision of technical assistance involving analysis, design, plant layout, equipment specification/selection, technical coordination, and other broad engineering skills is also expected. The successful candidate is expected to travel and be based in southeastern or central Oklahoma. This individual will be part of a statewide team of Applications Engineers as part of the Manufacturing Design and Technology Transfer Program working in concert with the Oklahoma Manufacturing Alliance, Manufacturing Extension Agents, the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service, and the OSU College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology.
A bachelor’s degree in mechanical, biosystems, agricultural, electrical or industrial engineering, or other engineering technology or manufacturing-related engineering field is expected. A minimum of five years of recent, varied experience in hands-on, customer-oriented, manufacturing or design environments is required. Priority will be given to registered professional engineers (or those qualified to be registered), and to individuals with additional evidence of professional development or certification. Understanding of product and process design, and facilities and equipment layout is expected. Lean manufacturing, optimization of manufacturing layout efficiency, Six Sigma, and Innovation Engineering capabilities are desired. Problem-solving, project management, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are critical, as is the ability to quickly and accurately assess technical issues. Computer literacy, including the use of spreadsheet and word processing software, CAD software, and the execution of database searches is essential.
