Position Available: Manufacturing Extension Agent, March 2020, Moore Norman Area –

The Oklahoma Manufacturing Alliance has an opening for a manufacturing extension agent / business development coordinator. This extension agent will be headquartered on the campus of Moore Norman Technology Center and will serve companies in central Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma Manufacturing Alliance is unique in fielding a statewide network of manufacturing coaches and experts located in the communities they serve, readily accessible when needs arise. Manufacturing extension agents provide outreach to companies, often in rural, underserved areas of the state. From marketing to engineering and financing for capital improvements, the Manufacturing Alliance calls on a comprehensive network of private and public entities to assist manufacturers. Manufacturing extension agents work closely with higher CareerTech centers and other partners to coordinate and manage growth initiatives, cost-savings projects, and training opportunities.

Job Objective:

Responsible for coordination of initiatives to support the economic development partnership of the Moore Norman Technology Center and the Oklahoma Manufacturing Alliance. Under limited supervision, performs skilled level duties to interact with and analyze the training needs of and provide relevant training to local industry. An incumbent in this position will utilize discretion, ingenuity, and independent judgment due to the complexity of the job.


Bachelor’s degree and/or 20 years of experience in the manufacturing.

Contact with Others:

An incumbent in this position has regular contact by telephone or in person with the public and other employees. Requires tact and diplomacy and independent judgment such as problem solving; making formal presentations; interpreting policies and procedures and explaining situations and issues to persons and advising them of alternative courses of action.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strengthens relationships by developing students and clients and staff, partnering with businesses and schools and collaborating with community leaders through participating in school or community activities.
  • Focuses on being a leader within the organization through personal accountability, active problem solving and positive forward thinking.
  • Focuses on continual improvement to assure quality products and excellent services to our customers and stakeholders.
  • Assess and determine business and industry client needs using appropriate tools and processes.
  • Recruit, select, evaluate and develop human resources to support delivered services to meet customer requirements.
  • Market business and industry training services and support economic development activities to increase client activity and tax base.
  • Coordinate development and/or selection of curricula, equipment and facilities to support training interventions that meet customer expectations.
  • Manage delivery of TIP, industry specific training and other services to satisfy customers.
  • Establish and maintain client relationship and participate in civic and economic development activities to increase and enhance exposure to the community.
  • Develop, complete and submit reports to provide accurate data in a timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively to promote short term and full time programs that meet client needs.
  • Coordinates use of district resources with business/industry training needs and establishes a cooperative working relationship with employees.
  • Attends conferences, seminars, and in-service training to maintain knowledge in relevant areas. Continues to stay abreast of current field.
  • Conducts public relations speaking engagements regarding Moore Norman Technology Center.
  • Works on various committees with staff to enhance the system. Plans for future community training needs and marketing strategies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must be able to use or demonstrate use of computers, office/lab machines, equipment, and instruments, and drive a vehicle.
